Intel may have decided to give up on its motherboard business, but its SSD outlet is still very much active, as proven by the SSD 525 series, which have just started shipping in Japan.

Available in capacities of 30, 120, 180 and 240 GB, they use the SandForce SF-2281 controller processors and Intel's own 25nm MLC (multi-level cell) NAND Flash memory chips.

In that same order, the drives are priced at 5,180¥, 14,480¥, 20,800¥, and 26,980¥.

That means $57 / 42-57 Euro, $160 / 119-160 Euro, $228 / 169-228 Euro and $295 / 219-295 Euro, respectively.

The drives are selling through OEM packaging and have read speeds of up to 550 MB/s and write speeds of 500 MB/s (for the 240 GB drive) and 500 MB/s read, 275 MB/s write (for the others).
